Yesterday we went to Il Piacere in Benidorm, which is situated opposite Poniente Beach. It’s a great location, practically right on the seafront, although there’s a road and the promenade between the restaurant and the beach.
What I’d single out most about the restaurant, without a doubt, is the service. We were looked after by Nathanael and, to be honest, he was absolutely lovely throughout the meal: very attentive, friendly and always looking out for us. As far as I’m concerned, Nathanael’s service was a 10/10.
As for the food, it wasn’t bad, but we didn’t find it particularly remarkable either. I ordered the spinach ravioli with cream sauce. Nathanael had already warned me that it was a rather small portion and that, if I was really hungry, it might be better to order something else. If the restaurant knows it’s a small portion, I think it would be a good idea to add one or two more ravioli to make it a bit more substantial.
Another thing I didn’t like was the time between courses. They brought me the ravioli first, and the calzone my partner had ordered arrived quite a while later. As we’d planned to try both dishes, we ended up having to share the ravioli first and then the calzone. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy at the time, so I think they could have served the two dishes in a more coordinated manner.
There was also one thing about the wine that I personally didn’t like: it was served in beer glasses. I realise this might seem like a minor detail, but if I order wine, I expect it to be served in a glass suitable for wine. At the end of the day, these little details are also part of the experience.
On the other hand, the restaurant was generally quite clean, as was the toilet – something I personally value highly. That said, there was no soap in the toilet.
Just a minor point: the menus and menus look rather dated, and I think they could do with an update.
Overall, we’d give it 3.5 stars. It’s a restaurant in a good location; it’s clean and Nathanael provides excellent service. The food, whilst not bad, I think still has room for improvement, particularly in terms of portion sizes and the sequencing of the courses. And a few small details, such as the wine service, could also be given a little more attention.
That said, I’d like to highlight Nathanael’s service once again: **10/10 – very attentive, friendly and professional throughout the meal.**
